Meta Platforms Unveils New AI Chips to Compete with Nvidia and AMD
Meta Platforms has introduced four new AI chips under its Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) family, marking a significant push into the competitive semiconductor market. The MTIA 300, 400, 450, and 500 are tailored for diverse AI applications, from ranking algorithms to high-performance inferencing. The MTIA 400, Meta's first cost-efficient chip, rivals commercial GPUs from Nvidia and AMD, with scalability allowing 72 units to be linked in a server rack.
The MTIA 450 and 500 advance this foundation, offering faster memory and enhanced speeds. Meta plans full deployment by 2026-2027, leveraging interchangeable infrastructure for seamless upgrades. This move underscores Meta's ambition to reduce reliance on external suppliers while capitalizing on the booming AI hardware sector.
